Below every track you'll see the letter “C”, “B” or “A”. Hover over the category letter and you'll see the price of the sample license.
Category C tracks have a license fee of 50, category B has an advance fee* of 500 and category A an advance fee of 2,500 $/€/£. Songs in category A are normally big hits, that's why the advance fee and royalties of category A are the highest.
The royalties you have to pay for a sample license are different depending on which category a song is in: C, B or A and how long the sample is:
- Category C: sample up to 2 seconds = 2 % in royalties, up to 15 seconds is 10 % and up to 1 min sample is 20 % in royalties
- Category B: sample up to 2 seconds = 5 % in royalties, up to 15 seconds is 15 % and up to 1 min sample is 30 % in royalties
- Category A: sample up to 2 seconds = 10 % in royalties, up to 15 seconds is 25 % and up to 1 min sample is 50 % in royalties
* The fee you pay to acquire category A/B licenses is an advance payment that is recoverable from royalties you must pay on future revenue from your new recording (apart only from any music synchronization (Sync) and neighboring rights (NR) (ie., SoundExchange/PPL etc.) revenue which is not recoverable).
