The membership service at your local PRO can help you register the work correctly - your local PRO is responsible for collecting performance royalties from the country you are based in. But if you don’t want to deal with song registrations outside of your country, you can just sign up with our partner Songtrust and they will help you collect your royalties globally. Use the code ”tracklib” and get 15% off the normal rate - worldwide registration to 43 PROs as well as global revenue collection is included.
REGISTERING WITH SONGTRUST
When you create your Songtrust account, add any songwriters that you wish to collect on behalf of. This could be just you, or your co-writers as well, if you have an agreement with them that allows you to collect on their behalf. When you register a work with Songtrust, you are registering the writer’s share only, based on 100%.
Then from the “Songwriters” page, click “Outside Writers” and then “+ Add a new outside songwriter.”
Example: In this example, we assume you are using a 15 second sample of a Category C track, and the original work has one original writer. We also assume that you are the sole writer of the new work. In this scenario, you will share 10% of the total 100% publishing pie with the original songwriter, and the remaining 90% goes to you.
When you register a work with Songtrust, you are registering the writer’s share only, based on 100%. So for this example, you would register the work as follows:
New Writer, 90%
Sample Writer, 10%
From there, we highly recommend you add the ISRC of the recording. You can also register any other original works you have with Songtrust to collect your publishing royalties worldwide.
