Song status
Marked on each song is its status. This is key to what you can or need to do.
Status: UNLICENSED
This is an unlicensed Song. For now, this is simply the first step towards getting a sample license. You complete the process yourself, but you can also send unlicensed songs to others (i.e. record labels or artists) so they can clear the sample and handle the non-music side of things.
Status: INCOMPLETE
You need to give us some information about your new song before you can release it, so we can make sure everyone gets paid appropriately. you will also need to make sure your track is properly registered with the relevant collection agencies. We will guide you through each step if there are things that are unfamiliar to you. We’ve written a few articles that cover this step - check out the rest of our licensing guide or contact us here.
Status: ACTIVE
Once you’ve given us all your information and confirmed it's correct, your song is activated. That means you can share it with everyone and fully monetize it. Yay! Once in this status, you're required to report revenue to us once every six months. Don’t worry, we'll help you with that as well; it's fast and super easy. You can find more information on this in our licensing accounting section.
Status: INACTIVE
You have inactivated your song. This is perfectly in order if the song isn't made commercially available anywhere but if it's released in any way, your license needs to be active.
Status: INVALID
If we have any issues with your license, such as not receiving income reports in time, your license will become invalid. We will always email you to try and resolve these issues beforehand, so please keep your email address up to date and reach out if you have any problems.
